Welcome to The Backroads Wine Company.
After almost two years in the works, we’re proud to announce the launch of The Backroads Wine Company!
What is Backroads? To put it simply, we’re a new way - to wine! If you live in the state of PA, you can purchase wine directly from us - here online, in our showroom (by appointment) and, anywhere we may have a point-of-purchase setup (wine shows, events, etc.). Even better, we can ship direct to your door!
Who We Are
The three of us - Tom, Moira and Marc - have all worked in the wine industry for about 30 collective years. Tom and Mo both work in importing, distribution and sales, and Marc is a certified Sommelier with years of experience running wine events for private clients around the Mid-Atlantic.
Our Mission
We love wine, we know a lot about it, and we’ve spent many years, taking notes and learning what other wine lovers want. Our goal is to offer high-quality, off-the-beaten-path wine brands from around the US, ones that we feel deliver amazing value for the price.
Metaphorically speaking, we travel the backroads of the wine world, to find true “hidden gems” that we can bring back home - and offer them to you - at the best possible prices in PA. Hence the name of our company.
The best part: There’s something here for every type wine drinker. As much as we know about wine, we don’t discriminate or judge - whether you prefer sweet fruit wines, or high-end Oregon Pinot noir. We’re proud to offer some of the best wines, in every category and style.

Why We Can Do, What We Do
Since 1933, the state of PA has had complete control over the sales of alcoholic beverages. If you wanted to buy wine or spirits, you had to go through the State Store system to get it. And although the state does its best to offer a wide selection of wines to the Commonwealth, it tends to fall short in some places - namely when it comes to pricing and convenience. Sometimes bigger, is not necessarily better.
In 2016, an Interstate Commerce court ruling was passed that allowed out-of-state wineries to apply for PA licenses. Wineries holding a PA Limited Winery License may sell their products to consumers at retail and to licensees. Any in-state or out-of-state winery producing less than 200,000 gallons can apply for this license.

The Portfolio is Growing
We’re just beginning! As we travel further and explore deeper, we’re sure to find even more hidden gems along those backroads. We’re currently working on partnerships with wineries in places like California and Washington and of course, we continue to expand our catalog of wines from within states we already represent.
We’re also working with our winery partners on Private Label projects - wines with names like Tri-State Trinity and Philly Style - that have local appeal and would be excellent for places where customers can really identify with the brands.
